Why Would I Ever Buy One of...
...these?
What does Steve Jobs thing we are? Some sort of superhumans with microscope eyes or something? Why would I ever dream of reading the New York Times on a cell phone? It's just too much. For that matter, why would I ever dream of reading much of any web content on a cell phone? That's why God invented full-sized monitors. He knew that human vision can't pick up detail at the subpixel level. Stuff at that level is only icing on the cake.
I think that the iPhone will be, for all intents and purposes, a flash in the pan. It won't make much of a difference in the cell phone universe. Why? Because it's a) too expensive and b) too limited in its availability. If you want an iPhone, you must be a Cingular subscriber and you've got to be deep-pocketed, too because one of these babies will set you back about $600. That figure right there's enough to make me run the other way. Cell phones aren't worth 600 bucks. What happens if you drop it? That beautiful shiny surface gets all banged up. That's a major bone of contention with me about iPods, too. They are just too delicate on the surface.
